The Power of Observation

Author's Note: Okay, my poems may seem a bit depressing, but I write how I feel in the moment.  I'm not some super depressed person, but sometimes I feel down so I write.  In this piece I wanted to highlight sentence variety and depth.  These aren't exactly sentences, but I tried to vary the structure and word choice.

You glance at me
reading a book
tuned out to the world
you call me a nerd
do you ever wonder why I tune out the world?

you see me
maybe with my family
or hanging out with my friends
what you don’t see
is the social anxiety
weighing down on my back
or the small cloud of depression
looming over me

you hear me
not very often
because I am afraid
of truly speaking my mind
I’m on the outside
looking in

you judge me
based on my appearance
the pain has become numb
I don’t feel it anymore
I am uncomfortable with my body
so I wear layers

you really look at me
never
you never see the real me
because you don’t bother to look
at more than the layers of clothing
and the quiet personality

  1. Whoa Ashy O_O. That was good! I love how you start each stanza in a similar way. What are you all upset about? I just wanna give you hug now. :D
