Drifting

Author’s Note: This poem is not based on the picture above, it's just a picture I found that conveyed this piece nicely. With this piece I want to show that even though things change and people change, the cuts and bruises will heal, with time.
sometimes friends
drift away
and you begin to feel
you don't know them
anymore
they have changed
and so have you
your similarities
aren't so abundant
anymore
they are replaced
with differences
as deep as a canyon

it's painful at first
it always is
but after pain
come forgiveness
and then it all just fades
to fond memories
of the good times you had
and the memories you made

but don’t forget
you have other friends
whose similarities
to you are growing
and expanding
while there will always be differences
just remember that similarities
and fun times shared
make up for the little differences

the real true best friends
realize when they are drifting
and close the void
while friends who aren’t nearly as true
just let the void grow
until you are separated by miles
and miles
